WHAT IS TF-CBT?

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment designed to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers recover from the effects of trauma. It is particularly effective for individuals who have experienced abuse, neglect, violence, or other traumatic events.

Key Components of TF-CBT:

  • Psychoeducation – Teaching about trauma and its impact.
  • Coping Skills – Developing emotional regulation and relaxation techniques.
  • Trauma Narrative – Gradual exposure to traumatic memories in a safe environment.
  • Cognitive Processing – Identifying and reshaping negative thoughts related to the trauma.
  • Parent Involvement – Helping caregivers support their child’s healing process.
  • Enhancing Safety – Teaching personal safety skills and future resilience.

TF-CBT is structured, short-term (typically 12-16 sessions), and highly effective in reducing PTSD symptoms, anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues in children and adolescents.
